[N] Konnyek
[N4] Sonate Concret
[N4] Sonate Concret - Konnyek Opus 4, 'Sonate Concret'. A term hybridised for our use of the Sonata and our use of electronics. Although taken at face they are 3 Sonate Concret, they could be one, 'Sonate Concret'. As a suite, where the second piece, is quite easily a 'movement', predominantly for piano, surrounded by two blocks of Concret. It could all hang on a notion of 'Sonate' being it's own plural.
Let me unpack that a little - we give you three pieces Called Sonate - standing alone under that term, Sonate. No one is calling them parts but a Sonate - a sonata traditionally [a strange word to connote with such a work] has three movements, so we could look at them together as a single work in three parts as a Sonate Concret as the title appears to be singular - but having said that - the word is its own plural.
Between those first three Konnyek albums and this 4th there were 4 other DCM projects.

[N3] Konnyek 3, 'Lady Blue Black', is the 3rd production together of Serbian Composer - Pianist Marina Vesic [AKA Black Marine] and English Composer - Percussionist Julian Broadhurst, as Konnyek. The 3rd of a Triptych of releases derived from materials created separately and brought together in each others studios to form those distinctively different uses of that material that are our First and Second Sonatas for Piano and Percussion; respectively Konnyek 1 & 2. Now here is the completion of that massive project in Konnyek 3 where those materials undergo transformations again to become a fully independent Electronic composition. The Name Lady Blue Black, derives from my description of the cover photograph as 'Lady Blues', and the Black from her being Black Marine. For me there is a dint of the phrase 'Lady Green Grass' - the only release of 'The Ones' in 1967 - the band that became Tangerine Dream.
[N2] Konnyek [Hungarian, Tears - from Bartok’s Bluebeard] is the Collaboration of Serbian Composer, Pianist Marina Vesic, and English Composer, Percussionist julian Broadhurst. As our first project together we decided to each make a piece for each other, each to have a copy of both, then to separately sit down in our respective Studios and work on some solution of combination. The results to be held in common, as ‘Konnyek 1 and 2’.
And now we have Konnyek 2, Marina Vesic's solution to the musical problem we set ourselves, and what a grand solution, A Sonata for Piano and Percussion no. 2, in one movement again but much longer, and, naturally lead by the Piano; that begins and ends the work. There is also a grater use of electronics here, though I feel the piece has a Prokofien air of the romantic gesture, an absolute tour de force. Naturally Marina is the pianist and I the percussionist, It is even more the case here, that he two parts fall together, like we had been in the same room. Here also it is not difficult to imagine it as a live performance. It is very close to an acoustic recording. Mine is perhaps more rigorous [and so maybe hard work]. Her's more natural, flowing and carefully wrought. A really contrasting solution to the same basic problem.

So here is Konnyek 1, my half of the solution, A Sonata for Piano and Percussion in one movement. Naturally Marina is the pianist and I the percussionist, I recall asking her if she had been Clara Schumann in a former life [as my middle name is Robert], because the two halves fell together like we had been in the same room. It is not difficult to imagine it as a live performance; it is very close to an acoustic recording.
I Knew Marina online from a group I formed called Simply DCM - I often enjoyed her work as a classical pianist and was delighted when she asked me to work with her. This could be a milestone in my Career I thought and this double project was the first result.
The first three Konnyek albums were released in quick succession in October 2012 not long after the second Anjelic Album.
